This year Silx were amongst 127 organisations from all over the UK who were shortlisted as finalists in the Children and Young People Now Awards 2018, we were nominated in not one but two categories and we were thrilled to be shortlisted after over 600 applications were received.
Our Senior Youth Worker Jackie and Progression Worker Sarah traveled down to London on Wednesday 21st November to see the winners be unveiled in a very prestigious ceremony at The Hurlingham Club, they were in the company of some fantastic and inspiring projects from up and down the country so just to be there was a great honour.
The evening began with a sparkling drinks reception and the opportunity to chat to other organisations and have photos taken, this was followed by a delicious three course meal and entertainment from the very talented London Free School. The voice of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Alan Dedicoat and TV Presenter Zoe Salmon revealed the 23 winners and the 10 Highly Commended entries and to our delight Silx were given the High Commendation in the Youth Work Category that was presented by CEO of the National Youth Agency, Leigh Middleton.
This award is a phenomenal achievement as we were up against some very large national organisations, we are thrilled that our tireless hard work and dedication to youth work and the young people of Blyth has been recognized nationally, and to be one of only two organisations in the North East Shortlisted makes this even better and really puts Silx and Blyth on the map!
After all of the awards were given out, there was an after party and another opportunity to network, Jackie and Sarah met some great projects from Liverpool and West Sussex and made plans to keep in touch and follow each others progress. Overall, the evening was great and we felt very privileged to be part of such a wonderful celebration.
This commendation will now take pride of place alongside all of our other fabulous achievements this year which include:
NE Youth’s ‘Large Project with Pride 2018’
The North East Young People’s Awards ‘Best Youth Project 2018’
The High Sheriff of Northumberland ‘Most Inspirational Group 2018’
