In April this year we became an AQA Accredited Centre, which means we now deliver the AQA Unit Award Scheme (UAS) The Unit Award Scheme is
‘A unique recording of achievement scheme, rather than a qualification. It offers everyone the opportunity to have their achievements formally recognised – no matter what this is, how old they are, how long it takes or how small the learning step might be’ (aqa.org.uk, 2016)
Kerry one of our workers has become the co-ordinator and part of her role is to create the units, this could be units that already exist or we can create new ones that once are approved can be used by ourselves and other organisations. We have begun to deliver the units in our Employability Project and in our Teen Bar sessions and they have proved incredibly popular.
In our Employability project we deliver units around applying for employment, writing a CV, Manual Handling,Money and Budgeting, Health & Safety, First Aid, Healthy Cooking, Basic Life Skills and much more…. Offering these awards means that the young people using the project can gain new skills, can update their CV with their achievements and as a direct result feel more confident to apply for jobs and further training. Take a look at the photos of the young people who have gained awards so far…..
We plan activities every week for our Teen Bar sessions these activities generally focus around Health & Wellbeing, Art, Team Building and Confidence all of our activities can be linked to a unit award so the young people can gain achievements for what they participate in as well as enjoying themselves, check out just some of what has been achieved so far…..
WELL DONE to everyone that has gained awards to far, we will keep you updated with further progress as the year goes on….
