Thursday 21st July saw well over 1,000 people descend on Blyth Marketplace for our Annual Youth Festival!
We decided to hold this years festival on the first day of the school summer break so families in Blyth could start their holiday with a great afternoon of activities for FREE!
The festival was opened at 12pm by the Mayoress of Blyth, Margaret Parker and there was lots for the young people and their families to get involved with; we had Facepainting, Candyfloss, Balloon Modelling, Smoothies from the smoothie bike, Archery and segway courtesty of Active Northumberland and a mobile climbing wall that was erected in the market place all afternoon courtesy of Endless Adventure North East.
The purpose of the youth festival is for Silx and other organisations to have an opportunity to showcase their work and show the community of Blyth what is on offer. We had an art stall on the day where young people could design and make their own keyrings and badges and take part in pavement art, The Newsham Getaway had a stall and young people designed their own mugs- other organisations at the event were- Blyth Rowing Club, Talent Match, Active Northumberland, Northumbria NHS Health Trainers and Northumberland Fire & Rescue.
The crowd had a fantastic day and were entertained by a DJ and dance performances by Timestep Dance Academy & Active Northumberland- we also had a very special visit from Batman, Elsa from Frozen, a Stormtrooper and Bumble Bee who led the crowd dancing to the Cha Cha Slide!
