On Wednesday 21st March one of our youth workers Kelly along with two young people Amy and Megan attended The High Sheriff of Northumberland Awards held at The Northumberland Church of England Academy, Josephine Butler Campus.

The evening began at 5:30pm and the young people were sat with others from Northumbria Berwick Detachment, Leading Link and Berwick Youth Project.

Sandra King, the chief  philanthropy officer from the Community Foundation introduced the evening then the audience were introduced to the High Sheriff of Northumberland, Mr John Dickinson. After introductions the audience were entertained by Limitless Dance Group, who put on a fantastic performance.

The High Sheriff Awards were up next and certificates were presented to 44 different projects across Northumberland- these awards were given in recognition of the work that has taken place in the community in the past year. The young people waited with baited breath for our  Project to be called up on stage but then this part of the ceremony ended- our worker Kelly presumed this was an error and was getting prepared to speak to someone at the end of the event, but no error had been made the best part of the night was still to come……

The final 3 awards were announced for most inspirational young person, most inspirational leader and then the top award with a prize of £2500 for the most inspirational group- that went to Silx!!!

The young people were very shocked but thrilled to have been given this accolade. Megan and Amy were invited up on stage to receive the award and had their photograph taken with the High Sheriff.

The evening was closed with a speech by Conrad Dickinson and the young people then enjoyed some refreshments and were introduced to members of the community foundation and congratulated for the award.

All of the staff and young people here at Silx would like to give a big thanks to the High Sherrif for giving us the title of ‘most inspirational group’ we are very proud of our project and intend to use the prize money to continue to support and inspire the young people of Blyth.
