Proud. This seems to be the word everyone that describes how they feel about this Weekends Tallships event are using, and we think that pretty much sums up how we feel about it too! Weeks, no, Months of preparation have gone into making sure the weekend was a success and this was most definitely achieved and we are happy that we were given the opportunity to be involved.
Our young people have been getting ready for the event for quite some time- they have made crafts in our teen bar sessions to sell and have designed and made costumes and banner for the parade and also assisted workers plan what we were going to do on our stall each day.
The busy weekend began on Friday and as soon as we arrived at Silx we could feel the ‘buzz’ in the air, the whole town was so excited. For those of you that visited over the weekend you will have noticed a big white marquee in the market square, this was our base and we had a great time. On Friday we pitched up and spent the day making printed Tshirts and Keyrings.
Saturday was extremely busy with the marquee attracting a constant stream of visitors throughout the day, our young people and workers spent time on the stall selling pirate hats, swords and boats and these proved very popular!
A group of our young people took part in the Parade that made its way through the event at the Harbour on Saturday afternoon- this parade has been planned for weeks with our young people visiting Headway Artspace every Tuesday for the last month to create costumes and banners, I’m sure you will agree they all look fantastic!
The weather wasn’t great on Sunday but that didn’t stop us! We had another great day at the stall this time selling plant pots, fairy jars and other crafts created by our talented bunch of young people and our detached team were out and about making sure the young people of Blyth were enjoying the weekend safely!
As well as our stall we also had the Squeezy Rider Smoothie Bike set up outside Silx for the whole weekend and passers by enjoyed a refreshing, healthy smoothie created by their own pedal power! This was a big hit, even PCSO Crawford gave it a shot!
Overall, the weekend was amazing and a big well done must go to Northumberland County Council and the Port of Blyth for making it (to quote a twitter follower) a ‘Splendidly Organised Spectacular’ we are sure this event will be remembered for years to come, well done Blyth!
We must also give a quick mention to our Volunteer Paul who is currently on board the Christian Radich sailing to Gothenburg with other trainees, keep checking our Twitter Feed @SilxTeen for updates on his amazing once in a lifetime journey!
