Santa’s Little Helpers….
December 14, 2018

This Christmas our young people have been Santa’s little helpers and have been getting into the true spirit of Christmas and thinking about those less fortunate than themselves….

Blyth Foodbank

The young people along with staff collected lots of items to donate to Blyth Foodbank this Christmas. PCSO Raisebeck from Blyth Police came to collect the items and was overwhelmed by the generosity shown by Silx. The items donated included toiletries, selection boxes and children’s books all of which will be greatly received by those that need to access the foodbank over the festive season.

Christmas Gifts for Teenage Kicks

The young people have filled Christmas stockings with essential hygiene items such as cleansing wipes, deodorant, toothpaste etc as well as some sweets and treats to be given to homeless young women living on the streets in Newcastle this Christmas. Lisa from Teenage Kicks will collect the gifts and distribute them to those in need on Christmas Eve. The enthusiasm from our young people to take part in such a wonderful gesture was exceptional.

Christmas Present Drop- Waterloo House

This year the young people decided they wanted to give gifts to the residents of our local care home, Waterloo House after the success of doing this last year. The young people made homemade chocolate fudge for each resident and wrapped up other gifts and delivered them to the home on 12th December. The staff and the residents were thrilled with the kindness and generosity.

Christmas is always an exciting time at Silx, its a time to look back and celebrate the year and this year is no exception- we have been involved in lots of exciting projects and the young people have continued to show Blyth the positives of youth- especially these last few weeks. To celebrate and to end the year on a high we are taking a group of young people to Newcastle Arena on 17th December to see Channy live in concert (NE Youth’s young ambassador)  and on Wednesday 19th we will be hosting a Christmas Dinner at St Mary’s church hall for all the young people alongside our friends from Newsham and New Delaval Youth Forum.

Our last day open is Friday 21st December and we will re-open on Wednesday 2nd January. From all of the staff and young people at Silx we wish you a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2019.
